A New Year-perhaps a New Beginning. ..
Its said that you need to take time out for the things you wanted to do rather than regret not having taken the time to do so. The New Year is an excellent time to review this list. For me, one of the many things I have not taken out the time for is this post, which I meant to write on New Year's day. So finally here I am busily punching on my keypad at a children's park in Siliguri. My wife is lazily sifting through the Sunday newspaper while Appa seems pleasantly satisfied on his wheel chair basking in the warmth of the winter sun. Chunki our Tibetan abso is now finally resting after all the running and chasing. My wife steals occasional glances as I bury myself into this gadget aware of her disapproval at my preoccupation.
Well the thing is that much happened in 2012 and so in retrospect here's my top three wishlist for 2013.
1. Firstly a prayer and wish for the Delhi Rape victim, that her death and suffering will not go in vain. Like everyone else here's wishing that her's and many others like her who have suffered silently will get justice. But most importantly hoping that people will start looking beyond retribution, the social dogma and parameters of the causes of rape. Earnestly hoping, that people will start discussing upbringing, education and awareness of children. That there is political will for stricter laws and speedy delivery of justice.
2. The year 2012 was really a year filled with pessimism about the end of the world. So my wish is for an optimistic world where the Mayan calendar is looked upon as an end of a cycle and not an end of the world. My personal belief and hope is pinned in an optimistic ignorance, that this period marks the end of Kali Yuga the age/era of the demon and beginning of Satya Yuga the age/era of truth. Cheers to my optimism steeped in ignorance-if u want to contest that then look around the world hasn't ended.
3. My third and final wish is for changes in political people and systems that starts to listen to those mad people who have been shouting about the protection and conservation of the environment and thus the planet. Here's hoping that concerns of the environment are taken seriously whilst taking the leap towards development. Its said that the world consciousness for such changes starts with individuals. So please do excuse me if this seems desperate and lunatic, mad people speak the truth sometimes, if you don't agree then hit climate change on Google and see for yourself.
Most of the times the world seems a hopeless place but thankfully we celebrate New Year to renew the faith and light a new candle...
Its time to go for lunch, the sun has already broken sweat on my back. Sundays are good for the soul and stomach me thinks...
