Darjeeling is this beautiful land that lies on lap of Mount Kanchenjunga. It's the land of the two river goddesses the Teesta and the Rungeet. It's the land of the clouds, mountains, ravines and forests.
This is the view from my home, where one can get a partial view of the Kanchenjunga. The land plays hide and seek behind the clouds and seems to change in the blink of an eye. A bright sunny day gets enveloped in fog by noon and ends in rain. People mostly grumble on the finicky nature, but in reality it's the most beautiful and amazing natural phenomenon-the water cycle!
Yesterday I was chatting with my Dad enjoying this view from my verandah. He recalled how the landscape was covered with forests with only a few houses dotting the hills. Even I remembered my childhood days when we used to play in the jungles on the hill slopes. Sadly there are no forests left on the slopes. How I wished I had a photo of the yester years! That truly would have been a sight! The three photos posted are of the same landscape taken during different times of the day . Doesn't it look different?
But also notice the concrete jungle slowly overpowering the natural jungles, and there's very little left of it except on the lower fringes. Slowly but gradually the forests will disappear into oblivion as more and more land is claimed for building houses.
More and more people are migrating to urban settlements such a ours. Our Samaj (Community Based Organisation) used to have less than 100 families now has more than 200 registered families today.
I wonder how life will be like when all these forests disappear...
Till then, enjoying the beautiful view, the chirping and singing of the birds...
As Osho said "The world is coming to an end, rejoice it!"
